August 15th Sports Picks

I started the day off really well yesterday with the Tigers and Rockies but lost my other three bets to finish at -$60.  Here are my picks and analysis for today's games:

Nationals -150 $250 to win $167
- The Nationals are getting hot as they have now won 5 straight.  Dan Haren has been pitching very well over his last three starts as he only gave up 11 hits and 3 runs in 21 innings.  Volgelsong hasn't pitched well this year (6.71 ERA) or at home (6.68 ERA).  He has had only one start since May 20th.

Reds vs. Brewers under 7.5 -110 $110 to win $100
-  This game features two starting pitchers who have been very good over the past 30 days.  They both have a ERAs under 2.00 during that span.

Angels -103 $100.30 to win $100
- LA has a huge pitching advantage today with CJ Wilson vs. Phil Hughes.  Hughes has been getting lit up lately as he has given up 14 runs in his last 11 innings.  Hughes has a 8.38 ERA against the Angels in his career, a 6.18 ERA at home and a 5.70 ERA in day games.

A's -210 $400 to win $190.50
- Oakland really let me down last night as I had already won 2 out of 3 on my parlay and just needed the A's to beat Houston.  It didn't happen as they lost in extra innings.  For today, the line is a respectable -210.  This is because the A's are pitching a rookie named Sonny Gray.  Gray is the A's 2011 1st round draft pick coming out of Vanderbilt.  He pitched well in AAA and gets to go against another AAA team in the Astros today...  The A's should get enough offense against Bedard to win this game.

Tigers -1.5 +110 $140 to win $154
- Detroit's offense is really clicking right now and Fister has been really good this year (2.58 ERA).  He is also very good against KC in his career (0.82 ERA) and at home (2.08 ERA).  Kansas City has been playing well but they just lost two in a row against Miami at home.  Guthie has been inconsistent this year and in his last start against the Tigers he gave up 10 hits and 5 runs in 6 innings.

** Added:

Twins -1.5 +150 $100 to win $150
-  The Twins play pretty good at home (27-29) and the White Sox are horrible on the road (18-41).  Both pitchers aren't very good so we will see some runs scored in this one.  I think the Twins will win so the run-line seems to be the play here.

Padres vs. Mets under 6.5 +105 $200 to win $210
- Tyson Ross has been unhittable in all four of his starts.  He has a 2.75 ERA this year and 2.16 ERA at home.  On the other side is Matt Wheeler who I am a big fan of.  He's got great stuff and pitching in a pitchers park tonight will benefit him greatly.  I see a 3-1 Padres win.
